Updates from the NACD Annual Meeting
Partners attended the 80th NACD Annual Meeting in San Antonio, Texas on February 15-19. The meeting’s theme was “Deep Roots, Bold Horizons” with a focus on conservation innovation, soil health, and strengthening local partnerships. Key events included national awards for conservation, 60+ breakout sessions, youth engagement, and discussions on 2026 Farm Bill priorities.
Participants, including conservation district leaders, federal and state agency partners, researchers, private landowners, and youth delegates, collaborated in breakout sessions and hands on workshops exploring emerging technologies, community driven water monitoring, market-based incentives for forest stewardship, watershed restoration, and climate smart forestry. The meeting underscored a shared commitment to scaling locally led conservation while offering attendees a platform to exchange solutions, celebrate achievements, and chart new pathways for sustaining healthy forests and clean water nationwide.
National Groundwater Awareness Week
From March 8-14, 2026, we are celebrating National Groundwater Awareness Week (GWAW)! This provides us with an opportunity to highlight the significance of groundwater as a vital source of drinking water, promote effective protection practices, and showcase local achievements. Established in 1999, GWAW is an annual event dedicated to encouraging the responsible development, management, and use of groundwater resources. It also serves as an important reminder for private well owners to regularly test, maintain, and treat their water systems, and to schedule annual inspections with certified water well contractors to ensure their systems are functioning properly and delivering safe, clean water.
What is the connection between GWAW and the Partnership? Groundwater is a critical source of drinking water for our region, and forests help recharge groundwater, making forest stewardship a key part of groundwater protection. GWAW provides a platform to elevate our shared priorities around water quality, land stewardship, and cross‑state collaborations that strengthen the Partnership’s collective impact.
